Playing style
Gyökeres primarily operates as a central striker. He is known for his combination of pace, physical strength, stamina and finishing ability.
He frequently uses his acceleration to attack space behind defensive lines and can carry the ball over long distances. His physical strength allows him to hold up the ball, compete with defenders and link play with teammates.
Gyökeres can also move into wider areas and half-spaces, creating space for other attacking players. His pressing ability enables him to contribute to defensive phases by putting pressure on opposing defenders.
His combination of physicality, direct running and goal-scoring ability has been a defining feature of his playing style throughout his career.
Goal celebration
Gyökeres is known for a distinctive goal celebration in which he crosses both hands over his mouth.
The inspiration behind the celebration has been the subject of speculation. Former Coventry City teammate Josh Eccles associated it with the fictional character Hannibal Lecter, while other interpretations have linked it to Bane.
Gyökeres has previously indicated that the exact meaning of the celebration was something he preferred not to publicly explain.
Personal life
Gyökeres has Hungarian ancestry through his paternal grandfather, who emigrated to Sweden. He holds Swedish and Hungarian citizenship.
His father, Stefan Gyökeres, played football for IFK Östersund and Stuguns BK during the 1980s and 1990s.
